the times has an article up on the diamond industry and its links to human rights abuses in africa. i'd been hearing about this through my coworkers so it was not new on my radar, but a new twist came along later today. i got a thank you email from collective good acknowledging my used cell phone donation from october. i went back to their web site to read up on their latest news and found this interesting piece: "war, murder, rape... all for your cell phone." it seems that no matter what the purchase we confront issues of the moral practices behind its production. cell phones are a nasty one-two punch involving both human rights and the environment in this case. as a techie working at a nonprofit i find this especially interesting. are there nonprofit techies out there advocating and educating on this issue?
