last night the nasty-looking beat-up rusty old toaster oven i inherited from my former roommate finally made a sputtering sound and gave up the ghost, giving me the excuse to buy a shiny new black & decker model that, among many other features, doesn't look nasty.
so i went over to kmart after work in search of said toaster oven, bought it, and was just a few paces from the turnstiles when i realized i couldn't find my keychain (which also had my metrocard). and my cell phone's battery was on low to the point of flashing an alarming red icon on me. great. got outside, made a couple of calls, schlepped this big ol' bag of toaster oven back to the office and found that i'd locked my keys in the server room. the last time i had a bungle remotely like that was during the blackout of 2003, when i managed to permanently misplace my favorite black inden wallet. but thankfully, i got my keys & metrocard back, then made it home.
was wiped out so i took the night off from studying. watched the daily show's continuing coverage of the intelligent design debate (evolution schmevolution -- they actually showed a children's textbook depicting the creationists' supposed coexistence of humans and dinosaurs. it actually really isn't all that different from the flying spaghetti monster after all, is it? yikes!) and then saw the movie beef, all about hip-hop battles from the days of KRS-ONE to 50 cent. very interesting stuff. i wasn't aware of hip hop as a small kid but i remember l.l. cool j and "mama said knock you out" getting radio play as rap became more mainstream. and i never knew someone like common would have a beef with west coast rappers! i'll go watch the sequel later on.
sox lost tonight and the yankees won. september -- traditionally a nervous time for all red sox fans -- is beginning to make me a little concerned once more. 1 game in front of the pinstriped corporation? that's it? uhm... our pitching still does concern me. big papi can't win every game single-handedly, now can he? (can he?)
last night i dreamed i was walking near the beach in the town next door to where i used to live in japan. i was with an american friend (fictitious friend -- this person doesn't exist in real life as far as i know) and we were on foot. don't know how we got there, but i insisted on walking all the way to the center of town with the intention of visiting my old apartment. i woke up before we even got to town, but i can remember the sand and the sunlight as if i had actually been there. funny how the mind plays tricks on you.
